ELECTION DAY - JUNE 26, 2008

The Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indian’s Board of Directors General Election took place on June 26, 2008 in Sault Ste. Marie at the Chi Mukwa (Big Bear) Community Recreation Center at approximately 5:21 p.m. The ballot count ended at approximately 8:15 p.m. Unofficial results were released at 8:45 p.m. EST. Election results were certified as official and final on July 1, 2008.

McCoy Takes Oath as New Tribal Chairman

Oath of Office 2008SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— The Sault Tribe’s new Chairman and six newly elected board members took their oath of office on the evening of July 2 in front of a large crowd of supporters, family, and friends at the Kewadin Casino in Sault Ste. Marie.

Darwin (Joe) McCoy was officially sworn in as the new Chairman of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Cathy M. Abramson (Unit 1), Joseph V. Eitrem (Unit 1), Bernard A. Bouschor (Unit 1), Lana E. Causley (Unit 2), Patrick D. Rickley (Unit 3), and Tom Miller (Unit 4) also took their oath of office and will represent their respective units for the next four years as a member of the Sault Tribe Board of Directors.

MARIE, MI—The Oath of Office ceremony for the Sault Tribe’s new Chairman, Darwin (Joe) McCoy and the new/re-elected members of the Board of Directors, is scheduled to take place in the Grand Ballroom at Kewadin Casino in Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday, July 2 at 6 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.
